HEMS aims to bring highly specialised medical crews to major incident sites for triage, treatment and transport. Many a time incident sites are either difficult or simply not accessible, during these scenarios HEMS becomes the only mode of transportation of both personnel and patients.

With the importance of the ‘Golden hour’, and due to the numerous Transport and Medical infrastructure deficiencies in India helicopters have emerged as the best and only option to stabilise and transport accident, disaster hit and critically ill patients.

The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recognizes this as an important branch of medicine for the future and has launched the new HEMS regulations to encourage its use.
